Marathon Week to Wednesday

Well it is only Wednesday, and I already feel like I have had a marathon week. It's probably the fact that I am still recovering from date party and the opening weekend of baseball. Too much fun! Monday night I went to MS State and heard Blake Mycoskie of Tom's shoes speak. It was a fun road trip with the girls, and his story was quite inspiring. I would love to be one of his interns despite the fact that I don't have any open time in the near future to have an internship in anything besides nutrition related venues. Blahhh!!! Nutrition is overtaking my life. Maybe it's because it's junior year and now I'm getting to the meat of my course load. Whether I want to do clinical pediatric nutrition or foodservice is still up in the air. I have been advised against food service so much I am scared to even pursue it. However, I love food.
Tuesday was honestly a blur. I started housing for my freshman soon to be sophomores in the dorms. Talk about a generation gap. 25 of them have replied to an email I sent Tuesday morning. I don't understand. I thought we were all part of the technological age. Maybe they are a part of the I don't give a sh*t age. I did so much house stuff yesterday I wanted to scream. I'm pretty sure I've sent a couple hundred emails in the past two days. I also took part in the bodpod screening yesterday which calculates your %body fat (lean and storage). I will not be broadcasting my results. However, they weren't bad results.
I started studying for my Anatomy and Physiology test yesterday since this weekend I will be attending RCS training at LSU for DG stuff. Monday will come in with a bang. A anatomy test at 11, a project and test in patho and nutrition therapy at 2:30. After that the week is pretty light. Too bad the next week consists of a lab mid term and two tests. By the time spring break is here, I will be surprised if I am alive.
Also, word to the wise a cough might have been a greeting in the time of the cavemen, but it is not one now. It's just plain rude. Also, give you mom a hug today if you can. If you can't just call her and tell her you love her. This is my advice for today. That's all.

The Last Bite Before the Best Bite

I have started writing again because my dear friend K will be leaving for China again tomorrow. She is to return on July 2nd, just in time for me to get done with summer school. I am taking a creative writing class this semester. I've decided to post some of my writings for the sheer pleasure of entertainment. Well this one is due in 13 hours for a peer edit, so there are still a few kinks to work out. Hey K, this is how I told my dad I was coming to live next to you freshman year. We just didn't know it yet. Look how amazing this dinner turned my life around to be!

The Last Bite
The week before I made a call to my aunt, a plump, genuine woman whose crow’s feet added to her sincerity, asking her to arrange this family dinner. I told her I had something I needed to tell the family.
“Umm. Yes, I can do that,” she drawled over the line, hinting interest and concern into my something I needed to tell the family.
Pulling up in my dad’s driveway, behind his old, dented green Ford pickup truck decorated with Mississippi State flags and stickers, I felt the knot tighten in my stomach. I made myself get out of the car walk to the front door instead of the usual back. I stood underneath the bulldog flag and knocked at the door, as if I were about to enter a stranger’s home, not the home I had spent half of my life in.
My father came to the door, “Why didn’t you use your key? Funny. Well, how ‘bout them dawgs?”
I could only mutter, “Yeah. Aren’t they great?” with a scared smile plastered across my face.
In the back of my mind I was telling myself I can do this. He will not disown me. If so, at least mom’s on my side. I might not be invited to family dinner as often, and he might never come visit. This is your dream, not his.
Greeting me were my stepmother, aunt, and grandmother, and lastly Bully, the family bulldog named so because my dad had taken care of the official Mississippi State Bully while in college. The hugs from the women never seemed to end. They contained an extra squeeze as if it would be the last they could every give me. I asked where my two sisters were since the house seemed eerily quiet except for the rumblings of the Mississippi State basketball post game show on ESPN in the background. My stepmother smiled her nervous smile where her mouth extends across her face not up and you don’t see her teeth.
“Well, we thought it would be better to have an adult family dinner this week with your announcement and all,” she said.
I noticed the food was waiting on the counters to be served. The smell of that juicy steak so sweat and savory was the only thing keeping me from bolting out the door. The baked potatoes welcomed me with the steam rolling off their tin foil wrappers. The steamed broccoli was lined on the plates like those I had stood under the one time I had tail gated in the Ole Miss Grove before the football game I attended without telling my father. I was told to serve my plate first. The rest of the family lined up like drill sergeants ready for rations while at war. Calm and somber their faces read that of worry.
I was the first to enter the dinning room of deep maroon coating the walls as it were blood dried to the walls. My dad did always make that remark. We bleed maroon around here. The condiments of sour cream, ranch dressing, and steak sauce were directly in a row in the middle of the table as if they were a shooting line.
I had to get my thoughts under control. How was I going to lead into this?
Everything I had practiced to say just did not seem right. It was compassionate enough, or it was too corny. Heck, what was I going to say?
The rest of the family joined me at the table. I felt like I was at a board meeting by the way everyone sat so straight almost rigid in their chairs. Everyone waited for the others to be seated before they began eating. The usual screaming and running around collecting forgotten silver ware and napkins did not happen. Only the clank, thud, and crunching could be heard from my family.
Finally with a thud of my dad’s fists upon the table he almost shouted, “Ok what is your big announcement, Allison?”
Before he could udder of his crazy guesses, later to find out, I diplomatically stated, “I have decided to go to Ole Miss for college.”
I shoved a piece of steak so big in my mouth hoping it wouldn’t be my last bite.

Friday! Oh Friday!

Well today was actually a restful Friday. I started watching L., J., and B. around 11. They played outside all day biking and ramping. I guess it must be a normal occurrence for little boys to skin their knees because today B. skinned his after a tumble off the bike. I am not use to all these accidents. I know when I fall and skin my knee about once a year it takes weeks to heal. If these boys keep up their crazy playing they will all need knee replacements before the age of 40! Haha!

Well I must say Hotty Toddy! I am proud of my Rebels winning their super regional game against Virginia. After 12 long innings, we pulled out the win along with our closing pitcher suffering from a broken nose. Poor Jake!

Today was pay day! Yay! I knew there was a reason I liked Friday besides it being the start to the weekend! Tomorrow I'm headed off to Columbus for the weekend with close family and friends.

I'll be back Monday with more from the lives of P., M., L., J., B., and of course me!

Until next time,
Ally B.

A very long day!

Well I picked up all five rowdy boys from the last day of football camp at 11 today, and we all headed to Newk's for lunch. Everyone was just starring and saying you go ahead and God Bless you! I just laughed! It is so funny sitting them all down at one table for a conversation over lunch. After the turkey sandwich with condiments snafu with M. and his sandwich which brought tears, all was happy and upbeat. My little P. talked about his girlfriend. I proud to say he only has one now. Multiples have gone out the window. He told of seeing her at the beach and how they "had a rockin' good time!" Haha! I was laughing so hard I cried. As the other boys were quick to call him out on the fact that they hardly looked at one another and didn't share a word. Oh what we thought young love was...complicated then, complicated now!

Well after the crazy lunch was over, we all made a pitstop at one of the houses before hitting the movies to see the new 3D movie UP. After a car ride with the discussion of racing pianos while running from the cops, My little P., the accident prone kid he is, fell and busted his knee open. After nanny Allison became nurse Allison all was well. We headed to the movies all shoved together like sardines in my camry. We piled out to find that movies have become ridiculous priced, even for the matinee, which was $9.00 for the kids and $9.50 for the me, the adult. Haha! Oh and did I mention there was a $3.oo service fee for the glasses because they santize them. Wow! That guy sanitizing them is making a killing with baby wipes! After going to the top row with all the boys, once the movie begins L. asks if we can move to the front of the pretty crowded movie theater so he can see. The adult I am moves with just him to the second row of the theater so he can see, leaving the other while praying they don't do anything without me there. All went well!

After I got back to the house with all the boys, things settled down a little. After many departed and I had only P. and M. things were very very quiet. I was at their house until 8 tonight when their dad got in from a golf tournament. There was some well needed napping on the boys part, unfortunately not on mine. Going to hit the shower and call it a night. I'm exhausted and tomorrow will be a full day!

Until next time,
Ally B.

The first two days

You have to know that I have been taking care of three of these five kids for years now when their parents are working, on dates, traveling, etc. As of three days ago, I found out that I was adding two more kids to my bunch L. and J. The others are M., P., and B. They are attending a football camp at the local private school in two where one of their fathers is the head football coach. Needless to say a few actually have some talent. I have to say I'm a pretty proud of how well all five of them get along. Yesterday, we all took an outing to the courthouse aka the local fitness club with multiple location around town. I thought we were all swimming. Well I was misinformed. The only on that took a dip in the pool was me. The others took turns between playing racket ball and wall ball. Also they hit up the arcade...this is a fitness club?

Today, I only had one set of brothers. Needless to say the day was uneventful with a long five hours sitting in front of the television watching Phineas and Ferb and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody until the downpour outside subsided. I finished the last Au pair book and started on many others with my new kindle applications on my Iphone. The most entertainment of the day came from L. and J. about their female cat who is orange, black, and white being named Mickey. I am pretty sure I am the only one who found the humor in this.

I am excited for S., one of my college besties. She is dating again! Yay! Well she will not call it a date, but I will. Oh and she is having a sushi date. I was glad but not shocked when I was the one she turned to for sushi ordering advice at the local sushi bar in town. She did her research before the date which equals no awkward texting under the table or in the bathroom while on her date. Oops that might be me!

My other college bestie, K. is leaving for China the end of the week to spend the summer studying. As sad as I am she is leaving for two months, I know it will be a good experience for her. No, this will not be her first time in China. She actually lived their for a couple of years in her youth. There will be a lot of long skype sessions, emails, and blogging to keep up with one another, but we will make it.

Tomorrow equals and extremely long day with all five boys with a forecast of rain.

Until next time,
Ally B.
